PRESIDENT: JASON CHUKWUMA

Jason is the 2018-2019 President of Harvard BPLA. He is a junior from Fort Lauderdale, FL currently living in Kirkland House and concentrating in History. Jason was previously a competing member of the Harvard Mock Trial Association and served on its board for two years as the Director of Community Outreach and Fundraising. Jason is also a member of the Black Men’s Forum and the Alexander Hamilton Society here at the college. In the summer of 2018, Jason worked at The Boston Consulting Group as a Summer Associate and will be returning in the same role for the summer of 2019. In his free time, Jason likes to watch TV shows (particularly Game of Thrones and Homeland), read the Economist, and spend time with friends.

VICE PRESIDENT: TANISHA MUGWIMI

Tanisha is the 2018-2019 Vice President of Harvard BPLA. Originally from Jacksonville, FL, Tanisha is a sophomore living in Mather House, concentrating in Sociology with a secondary in African Studies.  is an active member of Omo Naija Nigerian Dance troupe, Expressions Dance Company and Consulting on Business and the Environment. She is interested in political and economic development in Africa, and works on her project renovating the primary school that her father went to in Kenya. Over the past summer Tanisha interned in the Finance department for the City of Jacksonville.

Director of finance: TAYA COWAN

Taya is the 2018-2019 Secretary of Harvard BPLA. She is a Sophomore living in Adams house originally from Louisville, KY. She is pursuing a degree in Sociology with a secondary in Economics. Taya is an active member of Consulting on Business and the Environment, a volunteer with PBHA’s Harvard Organization for Prison Education and Reform (HOPE), and Priscilla Chan STRIDE fellow. Over the past summer, Taya has interned with the Mayor’s office of Louisville and plans to study abroad in Italy next summer. She has a passion for prison reform and abolition, spoken word poetry, and the intersection between race and policy.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND FUNDRAISING: ERIC JJEMBA

Eric is the 2018-19 Director of Community Outreach & Fundraising of Harvard BPLA. Eric is a sophomore living in Quincy House originally from Marlton, NJ. He is pursuing a degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering along with a secondary in Government. Outside of BPLA, he spends time competing as a member of the Harvard College Debating Union (HCDU) and volunteering through the Harvard Organization for Prison Education & Reform (HOPE). In the past, Eric has interned with the constituent advocacy staff in the Office of U.S. Senator Cory Booker as well as within the Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. Eric's interests lie at the juncture of technology and policy, and he hopes to gain a career in the law that allows him to litigate issues at this point of intersection.

DIRECTOR OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS:ILHAM ALI

Ilham is the 2018-2109 Director of Internal Affairs of Harvard BPLA. She is a sophomore in Currier House from Khartoum, Sudan. She is studying History and Science with a secondary concentration in Government. Ilham is currently the Political Action Chair in the Harvard African Students Association, sophomore representative in the Currier House Committee and is a member of the Human Rights Working Group. She also works as a reshelving assistant and trainer in Widener Library. Ilham is passionate about constitutional reform in Sudan and international human rights law. In her free time, Ilham likes to write and curate music playlists.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS: PRISCILLA SAMEY

Priscilla is the 2018-2019 Director of Communications of Harvard BPLA. Priscilla is a sophomore in Leverett House, pursuing a degree in Social Studies with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. She is from Minneapolis, MN and outside of BPLA is heavily involved in the Kuumba Singers, the oldest black organization on Harvard's campus, as their Publicity Director, and in the Institute of Politics where her focus is in the Politics of Race and Ethnicity, especially its intersection with health disparities. This past summer, Priscilla interned with a Senator in her home state, helping to motivate disenfranchised communities to vote. After college, she plans to get a JD-MBA and alleviate the administrative burdens on low income people and people of color who hope to start businesses or advocate for their legal rights in a system, she believes, was not built with them in mind.
